🇬🇧 Synth / Sonic Explorations

Outside of my work as a bassist and jazz composer, I love exploring electronic sounds with synths, samplers, and effects. It’s a pretty intuitive process for me—about chasing textures, moods, and spontaneous composition. I draw a lot of inspiration from cinematic sound design, modular synths, and experimental music, creating sonic landscapes that move between ambient calm, rhythmic tension, and raw improvisation. Whether it’s capturing spontaneous jams, layering textures, or playing live, the goal is always the same: telling a story through sound, beyond genres or techniques.

Fractures and Circuits, Vol. 1 – Learning

Fractures and Circuits, Vol. 2 – Playing

Fractures and Circuits

On December 29th, 2024, I broke my hand while jogging. Two days later, I played a New Year’s Eve gig on bass synth with one hand, having never done it before. For the next 12 weeks, I couldn’t play bass, my primary instrument for over 20 years. So I bought hardware synthesizers and started exploring. Fractures and Circuits documents that year: learning new instruments while immobilized, improvising on unfamiliar tools, finding a voice in constraint.

These pieces are live, single-take improvisations captured between January and November 2025. No overdubs, no extensive post-production, just rough mixes from the board, as performed. The approach was simple: turn on the machines, create some cool sounds, hit record, and see what emerged. Out of nearly 40 sketches, these 14 tracks best represent this period of exploration at the intersection of my jazz improvisation backround and synthesis.

Presented as two volumes (Learning and Playing), they document the same timeline, like sides A and B of an LP. Both trace the journey from early exploration to more confident performance, though they’re not strictly chronological. Think of them as companion pieces that together tell a complete story.
