Bucket List reviews Bud Rice’s permorfance at the RAC’s concert series

“Local folk hero, Bud Rice, knows how to take command of a stage. From his band’s opening cacophony of noise, to the count in for that first funky as hell intro riff, Rice led his band like a general leads an army. He was fun as hell to watch, and his awkward crowd banter about weather and Christmas helped to make the crowd feel comfortable. Likewise, he’s an honest songwriter, and all of his material felt earnest and organic. While musically diverse, his set, which borrowed heavily from his latest release Belfast, kept of bass of country rock and blues. His backup band are all also particularly skilled, providing the icing on the cake and capping off a wonderful evening with a bang.”

Quartier Libre reviews the MCM schowcase

Parc X Trio mentioned in The Overcast

The-Overcast

Parc X Trio

Taking their name from Montreal’s culturally diverse Parc Extension neighbourhood, Parc X Trio’s music is just about as diverse as the place they call home. Combining rock, world music, hip hop, and drum & bass in to their instrumental jazz sound, keyboardist Gabriel Vinuela-Pelletier, bassist Alex Lefaivre, and drummer Alain Bourgeois explore some very interesting musical territory.

The group groove together exceptionally well, employing intricate rhythmic patterns and complex harmonic language as a basis for their compositions and improvisations. Not unlike their Toronto brethren BADBADNOTGOOD, Park X Trio are pushing the modern electric piano trio sound to new and interesting places.

On Saturday, September 26th, Parc X Trio will perform at the Masonic Temple, beginning at 10pm.

I mastered 2 new Frédéric Alarie albums out now

I mastered and did the graphic design for two new Frédéric Alarie albums out now.

cover170x170

The first one is called Life and is available right here. It’s in a more “straight ahead” kind of vibe. It’s focused on different drummer-less duos and trios .

cover170x170

The second one is called Undertaking and is much more experimental with quite a bit of looping and effects. You can pick that up here.

It was quite an honor to get to work with Fred and to finally get to share this great music.
