Alex is a bass player, composer and label owner based out of Montreal.
Alex is a fearless original known for his unique artistic voice, passionate work ethic and easy going personality. He has had the pleasure of performing with artists such as Rafael Zaldivar, Samuel Blais, Rémi Bolduc, John Roney, Jacques Kuba Séguin, Erik Hove, Andy King, Rachel Therrien, Klo Pelgag, Karma Atchykah and Aliocha .
In 2007, Alex co-founded Parc X trio, one of Canada’s premier young jazz groups. Parc X Trio have released 7 recordings, the latest of which, Dream, is released through Challenge Records International. They have toured across Canada, Mexico, the USA and Europe and continue to maintain a busy schedule. Parc X Trio have won many awards and distinctions including the Grand Prize for Jazz by the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal in 2010.
In 2011, Alex co-founded Multiple Chord Music (MCM), an independent Montreal record label that promotes local talent, mostly in the jazz vein. The label currently has 17 artists on its roster and has released over 30 recordings.
Alex also composes electronic music. Notably, his sample-based composition “Lionnel-Grouxl Dub” was a finalist for MUTEK‘s “Connect the Montreal Musical Dots” contest in May 2013.
Born October 30th 1982 in Montreal, Canada, Alex grew up with his father’s Frank Sinatra records and his mother’s Beatles cassette tapes. During his adolescence he became infatuated with 90’s top 40, punk rock and hip hop. He also picked up his mother’s old guitar and began learning songs by ear. Alex quickly progressed to writing his own and began organizing concerts in small punk venues in Montreal while still in high school. After years of hard work, Alex refined his musical abilities as well as discovering jazz, classical and electronic music in the process. He is currently completing his Master’s degree in jazz composition and performance at the University of Montréal.
